When you volunteer for Special Olympics New Zealand, you are enabling a child or adult with an intellectual disability the joy of competition, the thrill of achievement, the long-term benefits of physical activity, and a sense of belonging.
Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the Special Olympics movement has grown from a few hundred athletes to more than 3.7 million athletes in over 170 countries in all regions of the world, providing year-round sports training, athletic competition and other related programs.
Swim meets are governed by World Aquatics rules. Swimming is a very popular sport within NZ and so, we invite you to offer your skills as a technical official.
All positions need to be covered ie, IOT, JOS, Starter, Referee and, we especially welcome trainees in any position.
Events during 2025 will lead into the 2025 SO National Summer Games in Christchurch at the new Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre, Thursday 11 – Sunday 14 Dec. Naturally, the athletes are excited!
The 2025 swim meet calendar is as follows –
- 30 March – Hibiscus Coast T1 (1 day event) - Northern Arena Aquatics Centre
- 28/29 June – Auckland T2 (2 day event) – Diocesan School for Girls
- 17 August – Tauranga T1 – Greerton Aquatics Centre
- 12 October – Howick-Pakuranga T1 - Lloyd Elsmore Aquatic Centre
- 19 October – Te Awamutu T1 - Livingstone Aquatics Centre
If you are available, your services will be greatly appreciated, not only by the hosting Clubs but, the athletes.
More details will be available nearer to the time of each meet.
